My Story

At the age of 16, I choose to be part of SPRED (Special Religious Development Archdiocese of Chicago). I was given the opportunity to work with children from the ages of 7-12 with bible study and appropriate church practices. Being part of this organization allowed me to discover my passion for helping children with disabilities. I loved showing them how to interact and feel comfortable with the environment around them. Once I enrolled in undergrad I decided to become a Special Education teacher, but thanks to my job at Autism Interventions Inc., I was given the chance to see other ways to help children and fell in love with Occupational Therapy. At the University of Illinois at Chicago, I changed my major to Occupational therapy and I chose Disability and Human Development as my major because I wished to learn appropriate language to use while interacting with people who have disabilities and dig into their rights and movement. I do not only hope to be an outstanding OT but a great advocate and ally.
