My Story
My father was in a terrible accident when I was almost two years-old, which forced my family to experience first-hand the ability physical therapy has in changing someone’s life. My father broke both arms, one leg, and suffered several other fractures as a result of falling off a three-story bridge connecting a building to a parking structure during work. If it weren’t for the team of therapists, his will power, and God, my father would not be capable of walking adequately. By persevering through his vigorous rehabilitation, he was back at work six months later. No one could believe his rapid recovery, but it was thanks to all the work everyone involved put in. That’s why I chose this vocation. I not only want to treat an individual’s diagnosis to the best of my abilities but also want to instill confidence in themselves to embrace who they are and the optimism to see how far they’ve come.
My Advocacy
My advocacy is to speak up for all those who are not able to advocate for themselves; also, to seek appropriate accessibility accommodations for all. I support organizations such as the National Children’s Alliance, Autism Speaks, Smile Train, March of Dimes, and Greater Chicago Food Depository.
My Education
Doctorate in Physical Therapy,
Andrews University
Bachelors of Arts in Spanish language & literature and minor in psychology,
Loyola University Chicago
My Blue Bird Day
After having the tremendous opportunity of interviewing at two Blue Bird Day locations and at the Merlin Day Academy, and thoroughly understanding their outstanding holistic and multidisciplinary approach of treating the child as well as being a support to their families; I knew for certain that this is where I belong.
My Professional Goals
- Expand my knowledge in pediatrics to provide a specialized plan of care that enables the child to access and be a part of their environment and interact with other children their age.
- Find the clinical certification that is both meaningful to me and impacts the children tremendously.
- Attend innovating continuing education courses that give me the tools to not only provide treatment but also share useful information with team members.
- Learn all I can from this amazing multidisciplinary team!
Blue Bird Day
Blue Bird Day fosters socialization, sensory regulation, and pre-academic learning in children ages 2–7 years in therapeutic rotations that simulate preschool and kindergarten settings. Our compassionate therapists practice a relationship-based and family-centered approach, provide parent training, and collaborate on goals and individualized intensive treatment plans for your child.
We believe in a collaborative and multi-disciplinary team approach to therapy. A team of occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, dietitians, developmental therapists, behavioral therapists, physical therapists, and therapeutic assistants are created for each child to ensure child and family are fully supported and the best possible results are achieved.
Options for individualized, group and virtual therapy sessions are available as well.
