My Story
My passion for rehabilitation developed as a result of my experiences working at the Hillcrest Nursing Center, as a certified nursing assistant. As a CNA, not only was I introduced to the disability community, but I was able to learn about the clinical aspects of healthcare, have direct interactions with patients, and gain understanding of the various professions the healthcare field has to offer. A rehabilitation-related career that interests me is occupational therapy. Occupational therapists focus on improving a patient’s ability to perform activities of daily living and roles that are most meaningful to their daily lives.
My Blue Bird Day
I have no prior experience with Blue Bird Day as I am fairly new. However, I am very excited to be part of the team!
My Advocacy
I advocate for disability justice, inclusion and accessibility. I have done advocacy work for the Chicagoland Disabled People of Color Coalition (DPOCC), an organization dedicated to spreading awareness about the issues and topics related to disabled people of color through advocacy, education, arts and culture.
My Blue Bird Day Goals
- My goal is to be accepted into the UIC entry-level occupational therapy doctoral degree program in hopes of becoming an excellent occupational therapist.
