My Story
Was introduced to the field by my mom who has Guillain Barre Syndrome, she shared that how a lot of things that I helped her with (opening containers, signing her name, etc.) align with occupational therapy. What attracted me to the field initially was the holistic view that therapists take when working with their clients. I have also always been intrigued by the challenges of working with children, especially after having been a TA at BBD and having clinical experience with young adults on the spectrum, because of always having to look at the bigger picture and identify potential problems that would impede their ability to be independent at school, at home, and/or in the community.
My Blue Bird Day
I first was an intern at Eyas Landing in 2018 prior to graduate school and then transitioned to a TA position at Blue Bird Day – West Loop from May 2018 to July 2019.
My Advocacy
I highly advocate for the autistic population as well as individuals with disabilities. It is so important especially for the field of OT, that everyone is able to participate in the daily activities that are important for them to participate in no matter the physical and or/emotional challenges they may be experiencing.
My Blue Bird Day Goals
- My professional goals include working in an environment that allows for both personal and professional growth as well as offers opportunities for program development and recognizes the distinct value of OT; this will allow me to continue to grow as an entry level therapist.
