My Story

I first found the field of Speech Pathology through volunteering. I entered a medical SLP program thinking I wanted to work with adults, but a Children’s Rehab placement in graduate school quickly changed my mind and introduced me to the world of pediatrics. I have since worked in pediatrics and became a parent 2 years ago, which has given me a whole new appreciation for working closely with families to reach their goals. I have been fortunate to have many different experiences (e.g. aquatic therapy, working in a blind school, outpatient clinic, etc.), which have helped bring different perspectives to my treatment.

My Blue Bird Day

What I love the most about working at Blue Bird, is the interdisciplinary approach. By working next to other disciplines, I have picked up strategies to help my clients from a whole-body approach. For example, I might see an OT using regulation strategies that I can use during my speech sessions to help my client stay regulated and get the most of their session. In return, I’ve seen other disciplines use speech strategies to help their clients communicate as best as possible. Our clients are really getting interdisciplinary treatment all day long.

My Blue Bird Day Goals

  1. To continue to expand my skills by building my credentials and certifications
  2. To continue growing my supervision skills – supervising Clinical Fellows and Graduate students
