My Story

I am pursuing a Master’s Degree at Governors State University to become a Speech Language Pathologist. When I was in high school, we had a career day, and I remember coming across speech therapy. It looked like a unique field and I had never heard of it prior to doing this research. I thought about pursuing multiple careers and majors including social work, teaching, art therapy, and even psychology. During my junior year of college, when I watched a clinical session with a graduate student teaching a child how to use sounds, it looked so interesting to me and that solidified my interest to pursue speech therapy. I love how speech therapy is a mix of psychology, science, teaching, and clinical application. That is why I am at Blue Bird, to cultivate skills as a therapeutic assistant and bring that knowledge into real clinical practice.

My Advocacy

I support the Illinois Speech-Language Pathology Hearing Association (ISHA), which is an organization that supports the professional development of SLPS and Audiologists and also provides educational resources.

My Blue Bird Day Goals

  1. My goal is to develop competency in my field as a future SLP to properly serve my clients. Through experience, I hope to be a step above competence and provide exceptional services for my clients to improve their quality of life.
  2. I also want to specialize in early intervention, as that is an area of personal interest.
  3. Lastly, I want to continue to sharpen my skills, work on my weaknesses, and advocate for underrepresented populations in my community.
