Relaxation Time Activity: My Favorite Thing

Skill Check

The goal of this activity is to slow down, focus, and strengthen listening skills. It also allows children to consider what their favorite things are and are not.

Growing My Skills

What does your child like in this story?

Do they agree with the character or disagree?

What are their favorite things?

What do they like about themselves?

Creative Time Activity: My Favorite Things Collage

Materials:

Paper.

Scissors.

Glue or Tape.

Crayons or Markers.

Pages from magazines or newspapers.

Photo of your child.

Skill Check

This activity encourages your child to think about their preferences and life. It can also help them work on fine motor skills as they practice using scissors, attaching pictures, and arranging them.

Growing My Skills

Gather your materials.

Tear out pages with pictures that your child might like.

Help your child cut out the specific pictures they like using hand over hand assistance if needed.

Using tape or glue have your child put their photo in the center of the page.

Help your child arrange and attach the pictures.

With your child find a place to hang up their picture where they can see it or add more pictures to it.

Movement Time Activity: Favorite Animal Yoga Poses

Materials:

The goal of this week is to pick your favorite animals and work on their yoga poses!

Growing My Skills

Reference yoga deck visual and have your child pick out one favorite animal/pose at a time.

First see if they can position themselves into the pose just from looking at the picture. They may need help by you doing it first or you helping their body into the pose.
See if they can hold each pose for 5-10 seconds working on strength, balance, stability, and spatial awareness.

Mealtime Activity: My Favorite Foods

Materials:

Pictures of a child’s preferred foods – try to include pictures of fruits, veggies, dairy and, protein food.

Glue stick.

Scissors.

Paper.

Markers.

Optional: happy and frowny face stickers.

Skill Check

The goal of this activity is to identify foods that make us feel happy and foods that make us feel nervous.

Growing My Skills

Prepare the table with glue, scissors, markers, and pictures of foods.

Fold a piece of paper in half, designate one half of the paper as “happy/my favorite” and the other as “yucky/not sure.”

You can write a smiley face on one side for “happy/favorite” and a nervous face on the other meaning “yucky/not sure.”

Have child sort the pictures into foods that make them happy and foods they aren’t so sure about.

Tip: include a picture of a food they’ve never tried.

Have that food in the kitchen that day, they can try it and put the food picture in “happy/my favorite” or “yucky/not sure.”

Language Time Activity: My Favorites

Materials:

Fingerprint craft

Paper.

Pencil.

Paint for fingerprints.

Will need different color construction paper.

Markers.

A white piece of paper.

All About Me Rainbow – First Day Of School Activity.

Skill Check

The goal of this week is to target expressive and pragmatic language skills, by discussing your favorite things. Talking about your favorite things is also a great topic to discuss with friends & family. Practice answering questions about your favorite things, and asking your friends the same questions back. You might find out you have the same favorite color/food/animal/sport, etc. as one of your friends!

Growing My Skills

Trace your hand, use paint to dab a fingerprint on each finger on your picture. Talk about how our fingerprints are unique.

My Favorite Things Worksheet: print out worksheet and color in your favorite color and draw your favorite food.

All About Me Rainbow Craft: answer questions about you on a different color paper strip to create a rainbow.
